The Textile Exhibition is usually held for 2nd year students to showcase their Future Craft Unit samples to the industry experts that partner with this unit.
Although there is only 2nd year students work on show, it is cross pathways with the knit and print courses and I invited embroidery 1st and 3rd years to come along to support.
I put together a post exhibition questionnaire for embroidery students to fill out; this wasn’t mandatory and was anonymous.
Please see some stats below from this event:
Amount of Embroidery BA students that attended:
1st Years- 8/20
2nd Years- 10/11
3rd Years – 0/16
Questionnaires filled in:
1st Years- 3/10 completed the questionnaire
2nd Years- 8/10 completed the questionnaire
How many students spoke to someone from another year group?
6/11 ticked yes
4/11 ticked no
1/11 didn’t tick any box
When asked if the exhibition made them feel more connected to the course or their peers 11/11 students who filled out the questionnaire said yes.
Some key comments and findings below:
Students enjoyed seeing students work regardless of pathway as well as seeing peers design process and being able to talk to them in person about their work.
‘Helped me understand my work in context of other creatives’
‘It was nice talking’
‘I like being able to see other peoples style of work among pathways.’
‘Some knit students have given me a lot of inspiration’
‘I have met someone i am going to do a future collaboration with.’
I aim to discuss this more in my presentation.
